Submission

Do you have a strong personality? Where you believe that in every issue you know that you could contribute an idea.

Have you ever thought that you are a “you-could-do-it-all” and “you-almost-know-it-all” kind of wife? And you can’t stop yourself from sharing your opinion and you want to push it as the solution of the problem?
Then, you have a strong personality!

I understand your situation for I suffered in this kind of personality in the first few years of my marriage. I heard from the elders that if a wife have stronger personality than her husband, then their marriage could be shaky. It might not be visible at first especially if your husband is like my husband. I could described him as my I Corinthians 13:4-7 kind of guy, where it was written that

“Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trust, always hopes, always perseveres.”

I was not aware that I was almost his opposite. For I was impatient, I used to boast, I was proud, I was self-seeking, easily angered, I kept records of mistakes and I hardly trust. It was really a blessing that we became part of a church who consistently helps their members to grow more like Christ. God revealed to me that I was controlling my husband and my attitude was not of a godly wife. I thought I was submissive because my husband doesn’t complain about my attitude, not until it became evident in our finances because of my wrong decisions where I didn’t listen to him and didn’t even consulted God.

I decided to surrender everything to God and asked Jesus to take control of my life. I studied  the verses about submission to help me understand how important it is to be humble and let my husband do his thing. I learned that God appointed Jesus to be the head of his church then he placed the men to be the head if their own families. We, as wives, must learn and understand that we are made from men and for men to assist them in their purpose.

Titus 2:4-5 had a great role in transforming me from being an unsubmissive wife to a submissive wife.

” …urge younger women… to be self-controlled, pure, working at home, kind and submissive to their own husbands, that the word of God may not be reviled.”

Titus 2:4-5

I can’t say that I already master the Art of Submission but I’m striving to be the best wife with God’s grace. I plan to discuss more of this in my future blogs but for now, I want you to check your heart. Ask yourself, How’s your attitude towards Submission? Feel free to share it in the comment box. Xoxo
